IIJ Group Begins Offering Customers in Vietnam a New Low-Price Server Resource Plan and GPU-Equipped Servers in FPT HI GIO CLOUD Service

Achieves cost savings by use of an OSS-based cloud platform while addressing the growing AI demand in Vietnam.

TOKYO—August 19, 2025—Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, TSE Prime: 3774), one of Japan’s leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, and its wholly owned subsidiary IIJ Global Solutions Vietnam Company Limited (Hanoi), today announced updates to the public cloud service FPT HI GIO CLOUD. This service is provided jointly with FPT Telecom, part of the FPT Corporation Group that is one of Vietnam’s major IT enterprises. Starting August 18, 2025, a new server resource plan is being offered that makes use of open source software (OSS). A GPU-equipped server plan option is also being added to the lineup, aimed at meeting the growth in AI demand in Vietnam.

Ever since the service was launched in 2017, FPT HI GIO CLOUD has been adopted by numerous local companies in Vietnam, and has enjoyed growing use especially by financial institutions and state-owned corporations. Up to now, the service has been available only with VMware as the cloud platform software. Responding to the diversity of customer needs in areas such as price and performance, the new low-cost service plan is being provided as a cloud platform making use of OSS.
The new cloud platform combines the highly advanced network virtualization functions of VMware with cloud platform management functions implemented using OSS packages that have proved their worth in a wide range of use cases, adding up to a low-cost server plan that maintains the same level of functionality and performance as the earlier platform. Customers will now be able to choose between the existing platform, with the high functionality and stability of VMware, and the new platform with its outstanding cost performance, or a combination of both, depending on their needs.

Vietnam today is seeing growing use of AI services aimed at automating and speeding up financial service operations from fraud prevention to credit assignment. In response, multiple server plans are being added to the FPT HI GIO CLOUD lineup, offering the use of servers equipped with Nvidia GPU cards supporting AI services, with the aim of meeting further demand growth for high-performance cloud services for AI applications.

■Features

The newly offered Type-O server resource type adopts KVM and OpenStack open source cloud platform software. These OSS packages achieve seamless connection to the network virtualization platform VMware NSX, enabling the highly advanced network functions and security functions provided by VMware NSX to be used just as before.

・Different server resources can be combined flexibly
The VMware software platform (Type-V) and OSS-based platform (Type-O) can be flexibly combined and used. For example, Type-V can be used for a database server demanding high stability and performance, while using Type-O for an application server giving importance to scalability and cost performance, in such ways freely configuring services to match the customer’s needs.

・High availability, with a utilization rate of 99.99%
Both Type-V and Type-O platforms are provided with a 99.99% SLA (Service Level Agreement), guaranteeing high availability. The platform runs on a distributed cluster, adopting a configuration that is designed to prevent data loss or server resource stoppage from a single failure.

・GPU-equipped server resources
On the Type-V platform, server resources equipped with Nvidia GPU cards are being provided. A choice of various GPU performance types is available. These servers are meant for use in an environment demanding high processing capacity, such as for AI.

・Ongoing service updates
After starting provision at data centers in Ho Chi Minh City in August 2025, plans are to update the service in December of this year, beginning provision in Hanoi data centers for the purpose of achieving redundancy and disaster recovery, among other enhancements. Aimed at achieving a cloud service that is even easier to use, it is further planned to provide a new control panel capable of centralized administration of two platform resources.
